The Call of the Wild (2020)

The Call of the Wild (2020), directed by Chris Sanders, is a family-friendly adventure drama based on Jack London’s classic 1903 novel of the same name. Starring Harrison Ford, the film tells the story of Buck, a large-hearted, spirited dog whose life transforms from a domesticated pet to a free-spirited animal connected with the wilderness of the Yukon. Mixing live-action with CGI to bring Buck and the other animal characters to life, The Call of the Wild combines themes of adventure, loyalty, survival, and the journey to self-discovery.

The story begins with Buck living a comfortable life in California with his wealthy owner, Judge Miller. However, Buck’s life is turned upside down when he is stolen and sold to become a sled dog during the Yukon Gold Rush of the 1890s. Buck’s journey takes him from the hands of harsh handlers to a caring mail delivery team, where he learns to thrive in the harsh Alaskan wilderness.

Over time, Buck comes to befriend John Thornton (Harrison Ford), a grizzled and solitary prospector dealing with personal loss. John becomes Buck’s closest human companion, and together, they explore the wilds, forming a bond rooted in mutual respect and companionship.

Throughout his journey, Buck begins to feel the “call of the wild” and is drawn toward his primal instincts and freedom, ultimately finding a new path away from humans as he answers this call and integrates into the natural world.
