Hellboy

Hellboy

Just summoned a fiery review of Hellboy (2019)! David Harbour steps into the right (or should we say left) hand of doom in this reboot of the dark superhero saga. The film dives into Hellboy’s origin story, a demon raised by humans to fight evil creatures.
The action is bloody and brutal, with some genuinely creepy monster designs. Harbour is a good fit for the gruff and sarcastic Hellboy, and Milla Jovovich is fierce as the warrior Blood Queen. The practical effects deserve a shoutout, creating a more grounded and visceral monster world.
However, the film struggles to capture the same dark humor and quirky charm of the original Guillermo del Toro films. The plot is a bit predictable, and the supporting characters don’t get much development.
If you’re a fan of the del Toro Hellboy, this reboot might leave you feeling cold. But for those new to the character or looking for a straight-up monster-bashing action flick, Hellboy (2019) packs a demonic punch.
